Starting a new floor for our new neighbors, missionaries who would be coming soon!

Believe it or not, this is a pretty clean worksite! The guys are doing very well in learning how to work clean and quickly and safely!

Jacob got this wood from a local mill. It was not kiln dried and was a little tough to get together. Ganino found that a bit of encouragement from a hammer made things go much better.

After hours of sanding and pounding and cutting, nothing is more satisfying than seeing the floor get its first coat!
Big improvement from the molding rug. Especially because the new missionaries were sensitive to mold!
A quick deck repair. Beldin planned and built the stairs without very little help from me. And he did a great job! Each step was exactly the same height. Not easy to do when nothing is level!

This is the room after the final coat, with the base board. And all the furniture moved in. There were some tricky joints in here and the guys learned a lot about how to do trim. This wood is called quila and can be especially difficult as the sawdust has red oil in it and will stain walls if you are not careful!
The house is all cleaned up and ready for its new occupants. The guest house ladies also helped a lot with their suggestions for how to properly arrange the furniture and doing so much cleaning!

The mirror in flat two was looking pretty bad. A wood frame made it look much better. Good mirrors are hard to get and expensive in Goroka so you have to take care of one if you have it! Jacob also made a key box recently out of jarrah wood, so that our keys can be easily found when needed.
Jacob's new invention, metal countertops. For those places where durability and repairability are what's important! It is also termite and mold proof.
Metal countertops are not new of course. But we have never seen painted metal countertops before.
Jacob tried a new design on this counter. He thinks it works for a bathroom but probably not great in a kitchen.
Since they are just for us, Jacob can also write bible verses on them, which is fun.
After he gets some wood trim added and the verse written, he thinks it will look really good.
Also, the metal door needed painting. Jacob had two choices,
1) go to town and get some nice neutral paint to make our guest house homey and relaxing.
2) save himself a trip to town and mix a few random leftover cans of paint together, hope it is enough to paint the door and see what color the door ends up being.
He went for option 2 and kept things exciting!

Showing a guest around Jacob's little shop.
Guests have to be careful here though. After showing him how he sharpens his chisels. Then of course, he had to test the chisel to see how well I sharpened it. So off he went and tested out my chisel by adjusting a door latch on a house.

Jacob fixed these bunk beds that were in storage and put them in the newly renovated apartment.
