Tang Soo Do Tournament

Jacob and Jonathan had the opportunity to join in the Tang Soo Do Tournament. Naomi and I got to go watch. And we all got shirts to prove we were there. :)

Jacob and Christian presented Tabby, the instructor, with a board to break, grown in PNG (the board was a PNG board) ... Jonathan and Jacob used a wood burning kit to write Tang Soo Do on it and had everyone sign it. This is Tabby's last couple months in PNG.

Ready to start performing his Tang Soo Do Forms for the judges.

Jonathan also in line to perform his Tang Soo Do forms for the judges.

Naomi and I watching :)

Jacob and Jonathan won some medals too!

Tabby, their instructor, broke this board that Jacob and Jonathan made. Everyone signed it and Jacob glued it together and framed it. Tabby will be moving away soon and we are sad to see her leave.

Field Trip!!

Jonathan's 6th grade class got to go to the Ethnos360 Aviation hangar in town where our pilots and mechanics work and fly missionaries in and out of the jungle.

They also got to visit the MAF hangar too.

The MAF Pilot was nice enough to give us a tour of the plane.

And Jonathan got to sit in the pilots seat!

One of the pilots even let the kids co-pilot in the simulator. All of a sudden the engine failed but the pilot and co-pilot worked together to safely land the simulator! We are so thankful for pilots that have a heart to serve the Lord.

Jacob's projects

Jacob taught the guys how to install cabinet doors with hidden hinges.

Also, they started working on countertops. Here they are experimenting with putting inset sinks in. Since mold grows so quickly in this environment, standing water is a mold attraction in wet areas.

They make the countertops down at the workshop. The guys have enjoyed learning different finishing techniques.

To practice for missionaries houses, we made some countertops for the bathrooms at the workshop.

They turned out pretty good. After the workers walk to work through coffee gardens and fording a river, the guys appreciate a hot shower, and indoor plumbing! So small bathroom vanity was also a welcome addition.

Workshop cleanup day can get a little crazy! One of the first things I learned in cabinet school was to not stand on the table saw. At the time I thought it was a funny joke. However, on this day Ganino and I both saw the wisdom of this advice as we tried to sweep and clean the area around the saw without stepping on it.

Lapilo Center Operations fire safety day. We all learned how to operate fire safety equipment and how to respond in emergencies. A very good thing to know!

School Days & Tang Soo Do Practice

The kids had music class this semester! They learned different instruments and how they worked for some of the classes. Jonathan is interested in learning how to play the flute but also had fun playing the saxophone.

Famous People Dress up day - Norm Abram and Julie Childs

Jonathan also enjoys sparring at Tang Soo Do.

Naomi joined Tang Soo Do in February too, with her friend Nathan.

Twin Day - Naomi and her friend Naomi :)

Twin day - Jonathan's whole 6th grade class dressed alike!

A Visit Across the River

Every day that two of the guesthouse workers come to work, they cross a river. We finally decided to travel around the river by car to visit them at their village. Thankfully our neighbors, Travis and Becky, are happy to go off roading through water and mud on an adventure.

It was a beautiful drive!

We enjoyed our day visiting the ladies that work at the guesthouse with Travis and Becky, and their kids Nathan, Hannah and Grace.

It was also a bumpy drive!

Playing in the sand by the river with Georgie.

Always fun to see the different pig houses around the village

This is the river that they cross every day. Sometimes they have to use tubes to go across because it is so high. During dry season they can walk across because it is not quite waist deep.

This is where we live... looking at Lapilo from the other side of the valley.

Nathan and Jonathan riding in the car on the way to the river.

Fiona got a new tube for crossing the river.
