Back Home Again!

When we arrived home in Wewak we had a few packages awaiting us from my parents and my sister! Including this Paw Patrol board game! Fun!

A new Spider-man cape and mask for Jonathan!

 Plus a Spider-man shirt. :)

And Naomi loves her new shoes! She is starting to stand on her own and take a few steps before sitting back down and crawling again!

A little croquet to relax on the weekend!

Anticipating the taste of real maple syrup, thank you mom and dad!

My mom sent some Mary Kay items for me and this sleeping mask came with it, Jonathan loves it. And it is hilarious to watch him use it! :) He loves to put it on and try to do things around the house.

But he says it also helps him sleep!

Finally enjoying real maple syrup on Saturday night!

Reading and learning about the armor of God on Sunday morning.

Off to the hot Sepik again! Such an amazing view! I will never get tired of it!

Relaxing on our porch...

Sone, a good friend from the Bena near Interface, came to visit us while we were on break. She loved meeting Naomi and Naomi seemed to love her too!

Sone came with her granddaughter Delmar, and she had a great time playing with Jonathan!

Now Naomi can wear Jonathan's old 1 year Patriots jersey, Gronkowski!

There were two birds in a cage just outside our house... they are hiding on top of the cage, I think because they heard the loud noise of the trucks going by. :)

These trucks and larger ones went by on and off  24 hours a day. It was quite loud due to the HUGE potholes in the road, PNG drivers go fast and sometimes the containers on the back were empty!

In the night, I had to sleep with earplugs, but Jonathan slept through everything! Naomi woke up sometimes, but normally she did pretty good! Overall it was a relaxing break and we enjoyed the cool weather and getting together with friends again!

A look at the Old Interface Campus :(

Usually when we visit the Highlands for a break, we visit the Bena people around Interface only, we have not gone back to the Interface campus at all. This time the Bena people were telling us that they have been fixing it up because they are getting it ready to sell to the Lutheran mission so they can turn it into a teacher's college. They told us that we should go see it. So we decided to do it... we hadn't been there in 5 years!

This visit to the old interface campus where we used to work was quite hard.

This duplex used to be our home. We lived in the left side. The Interface office was in the right side. It looked like the grass was very tall and they had just burnt it down to start cleaning up the place, so it was rough to walk through, no longer a nice lawn.

The old workshop. The base of operations where we used to keep everything spic and span.

When we left in July 2012, Beth was pregnant with Jonathan. We were really looking forward to watching him grow up here.

We had no idea it would be closed down so quickly.

There were many memories for us here. It was hard to go back and see it all run down. This view is from the workshop looking out towards the Interface kitchen.

So many of our memories of this place are good. So it is great to think of all God has done in the past and remember the good times and all the lives that God changed here!

And even though this is not the way we wanted things to turn out, it was what God wanted to happen so it was the best thing, even though we don't understand it all.

So, even in all the mess that life appears to be, God still gives us small things like flowers to remind us that He works everything together for good, even when we can't see it from where we are standing.

Out and About in the Highlands

We went to the town of Goroka one day to do some shopping and stopped at a restaurant/hotel to eat. While we waited for our food, Naomi ate a snack... here she is saying please...

And Jonathan attempted to enjoy the pool! It was cold!!

It took him a long time to get in, but he finally did! In the Highlands, it is a lot cooler and no humidity, so nice! But that means the pool temperature is a lot colder than Wewak!

Naomi is saying 'please', she wants to play in the dirt, right outside our house. :)

Our neighbors had a trampoline, which the kids loved!

The playground was one place we went every day!

One time Jonathan  had a chance to play baseball with the other kids!

 Naomi loved the swing!

And they both loved the sandbox!

We even got to go to Story Time at the Elementary Library!

 All dressed up for church!

And back to the playground! Naomi loved climbing these stairs and going down the slide with help!

We also saw the NTM doctor at the NTM HQ while we were there, and so Naomi's band-aide is from one of the 5 shots she received! She is healthy and strong and growing!

"Hmm... which superhero are you today Jonathan?"
